Alberto Cairo is the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at the School of Communication of the University of Miami (UM). He is also the director of the visualization program at UM’s Institute for Data Science and Computing. He leads graphics teams at news publications in Spain and Brazil. He is the author of 'How Charts Lie: Getting Smarter About Visual Information' (2019), 'The Truthful Art' (2016) and 'The Functional Art’ (2013). Cairo currently consults with companies like Google, and has provided visualization training to the European Union, Eurostat, the CDC, the Army National Guard, and many others. He lives in Miami, Florida.

Yaryna Serkez is a full-stack data journalist. She is Graphics Editor on Opinion at the New York Times. Previously she worked for The Wall Street Journal where she created interactive data stories. Her skill set includes a sharp eye for design and an ability to create web-based 3D explorations. She is based in Germany.

Harry is a visual journalist at the Washington Post, where he creates news graphics for both the web and print. Prior to joining the Post, he worked for Axios, The Hindustan Times, and the Salt Lake Tribune. He has a Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Nadieh Bremer is a graduated Astronomer, turned data scientist, turned data visualization designer, based near Amsterdam. She's working as a freelancer under the name "Visual Cinnamon". As 2017's "Best Individual" in the Information is Beautiful Awards, she focuses on uniquely crafted (interactive) data visualizations that both engage and enlighten its audience. Working for companies such as Google News Lab & UNESCO to small start-ups. From printed magazines to interactive experiences online to more promotional focused visuals for press releases, data-driven reports, and data art.

Gabrielle Merite is an independent French Data Visualization Designer. Former scientific journalist specialized in Health and Biology, she turned to design in order to merge her love for science & art. Her work focuses on illuminating the stories behind data. She has collaborated with a variety of international leaders from government agencies such as the French Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis, the United Nations to independent companies like ViiV HealthCare and Cleo Capital.

Sonja Kuijpers runs STUDIO TERP, her one-woman information graphics studio. In 2013 she founded her studio and started creating infographics and data visualisations for clients. With a former career in public space / landscape architecture design, she has a fundamental experience in analysis and its visualization. She also designs her own independent dataviz and dataart projects and received an Information is Beautiful Gold award for her personal project “A view on despair”. Ajit's work spans research, entrepreneurship and academia relating to artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT). He is the course director of the course: Artificial Intelligence: Cloud and Edge Implementations.at the University of Oxford. Besides this, he also conducts the University of Oxford courses: AI for Cybersecurity and Computer Vision. Ajit works as a Data Scientist through his company feynlabs - focusing on building innovative early stage AI prototypes for domains such as cybersecurity, robotics and healthcare. He is also currently working on a book to teach AI using mathematical foundations at high school level.

Based at The Dock, Accenture’s Global Innovation Centre in Dbulin, Stephen’s team delivers data innovation solutions for Accenture. He has extensive experience with AI and Machine Learning, Big Data, Graph Databases, Digital Assistants, Advanced Analytics, Data Architecture and occasionally some Data Visualisation. With over twenty-five years’ experience delivering data and analytics projects both in the public and private sectors, he frequently presents on data topics to a mix of business and technical audiences. Stephen is a published author and has a global reputation, including being recognised as a Qlik Luminary (2014 through 2020).

Amanda Makulec is the Senior Data Visualization Lead at Excella and holds a Masters of Public Health from the Boston University School of Public Health. She worked with data in global health programs for eight years before joining Excella, where she leads teams and develops user-centered data visualization products for federal, non-profit, and private sector clients. Amanda volunteers as the Operations Director for the Data Visualization Society and is a co-organizer for Data Visualization DC.

Neil Richards is a 2020 Tableau Zen Master and Public Ambassador, and works as a Data Visualization Consultant and Evangelist at Groupon in the UK where he is responsible for internal community building, data viz education and visualisation best practices within the organisation. He is also Knowledge Director of the Data Visualization Society and an active Board Member for Viz for Social Good. Paul Radu is a director and co-founder of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, a co-creator of the Investigative Dashboard concept, of Visual Investigative Scenarios visualization software and a co-founder of RISE Project - a platform for investigative reporters and hackers in Romania. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Knight International Journalism Award, the Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, the Global Shining Light Award, the Tom Renner Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting and the European Press Prize. Paul is an Ashoka Global fellow - innovating investigative journalism and its coverage of transnational organized crime; and a board member with the Global Investigative Journalism Network.

Han Xiao is Founder & CEO of Jina AI Ltd. He is also an AI open-source evangelist. His Fashion-MNIST and bert-as-service were listed as the most popular AI open-source projects in 2017&18 world-widely. Previously, Han led a team on neural information retrieval at Tencent AI, laying down the next-gen search infrastructure. He served in the Tencent Technical Advisory Council and Opensource Program Office, fostering the open-source and DevOps culture inside the company. Han also served as a board member at LF AI Foundation, driving the open source innovation in AI by enabling international collaboration. Han received the Ph.D. and M.Sc. in computer science from the Technical University of Munich in Germany. He is also the Founder & Chairman of the German-Chinese Association of AI, a NPO in Germany.

Federica Fragapane is an independent information designer. Among her projects, she designed data visualizations for Google News Lab, UN, Scientific American, BBC Science Focus, Penguin Books and La Lettura. She is co-author of the infographics children's book “Planet Earth”, the "Geopolitical Atlas of Water" and author of “The Stories Behind a Line” a visual narrative of six asylum seekers’ journeys. Many of her projects have an experimental approach and she is interested in exploring the relationship between data visualization and people.

Lasha Antadze is a founder of Shelf.Network - a technology company facilitating cross-border vehicle trades by enabling connectivity among the value chain participants, and building global infrastructure in partnership with: BNP Paribas, Arval, Carfax, IAAI, Adesa etc. Currently the company is active with US to Europe and Japan to South East Asia networks. Lasha has experience in distributed system architecting and data management for P2P networks.

Solomiya Brantes is a Data Scientist at Monese, UK-based digital bank, for which she builds machine learning models that detect fraud and money laundering. She is based in Estonia where she obtained her Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics from the University of Tartu. Her master's research innovatively applied data science for anti-money laundering and has been awarded a prize by Estonian Research Council and one of the biggest Estonian banks.

Eto Buziashvili is a Research Associate for the Caucasus at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Georgia. In this role, Eto researches the information space, focusing on Russia and the Caucasus region. Prior to the DFRLab, Eto advised the National Security Council of Georgia and was involved in developing strategic documents. Earlier, she worked as a senior analyst at the country’s Ministry of Interior, where she covered security issues related to Russia and the occupied regions of Georgia.

Darren Long is the creative director of the South China Morning Post where he manages the graphics and magazine design desks. The team tell stories visually as a way to reinforce, expand and reinvent how the SCMP informs and educates its readers. With nearly 30 years of experience, Darren has launched and rejuvenated dozens of publications in Hong Kong, London and Malaysia and overseen the SCMP graphics team’s digital evolution.

Kuek Ser Kuang Keng is an award-winning digital journalist cum trainer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is the founder of Data-N, a training program that helps journalists to integrate data journalism into daily reporting. Data-N has helped publications like Foreign Policy, BBC World Service, Mediacorp and Malaysiakini to enhance their storytelling with data, visual and interactive components. With the support of Google News Initiative, he has been conducting regular digital journalism workshops across the region since 2018. Keng is also the competition officer of Data Journalism Awards and Sigma Awards, two international awards that recognize outstanding work in the field of data journalism worldwide.

Tetyana is an elections and civil society development specialist and a researcher of technology’s impact on democracy. She has just completed a Fellowship at the Prague Civil Society Centre, where she investigated the use of personal data in elections. Prior to that, Tetyana has worked with NGOs in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and served as a Legislative Education and Practice Program Fellow with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Washington, DC. Tetyana holds a M.A. in Eastern European Studies from the Free University of Berlin and a B.A. in Business Administration from the International Christian University-Kyiv. \

Varoon Bashyakarla is a data scientist, studying how personal data is becoming a political asset, influencing elections and referenda. He has worked for many global companies, including Dropbox, where he helped preempt cyberattacks and supported the launch of a new office. Varoon received his bachelor’s degree in statistics and economics from Yale University.

Stefan Papp is a co-founder and managing director of FreeDOM Data, the first consulting company in Armenia that exclusively focuses on creating Data Platforms mainly for German-speaking markets. He is also a mentor at the Armenian AI community. Stefan received a Master's degree in Software Engineering from UAS Hagenberg. The fields of his interest include big data, startups, cloud computing, Python and AWS.

Carlos Figueredo is the CEO and Founder of Open Vector, a professional consultancy firm specialising in open banking, PSD2, GDPR and payments. He is a recognised open banking SME with 20+ year payments, SWIFT, SEPA, PSD2 and ISO experience. Carlos’ Open Banking experience started in 2016 as the Head of Data Standards for the UK Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE). He oversaw the ISO 20022 based standard development and the relevant technical elements to integrate it across the array of product-based API’s which was the first open banking initiative globally. His prior roles included leading large-scale program integration and standardisation primarily in the payment’s arena for banking institutions like Barclays, HSBC, and Credit Suisse.

Mick Cooney is a statistical modelling consultant specializing in financial services, and has over 15 years of experience in quantitative finance and insurance. Mick completed a PhD in Computational Quantitative Finance and spent 10 years modelling volatility for equity and equity index derivatives. He has spent the last few years in insurance helping companies in both life and general insurance with their modelling needs and has a particular focus on pricing and risk modelling for specialty insurance.

Manya Sahakyan has been working as a Development Engineer at Audi since 2012. She focuses on the development of natural language understanding (NLU), primarily on statistical language models (SLM) as well as task-based intelligent dialog systems. Her expertise also covers speech technology consulting and solutions for Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI-driven empathic voice assistants. She holds a master degree in Computational Linguistics, which she completed at the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

Michael J. Sheldon is a Research Associate for Eurasia at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Washington, D.C, where he heads research on the Lab’s Minsk Monitor line of reporting. Prior to joining the Atlantic Council, Michael worked as a research intern at the Hudson Institute and on the board of the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association.

Roman Osadchuk is a Research Assistant for Eurasia at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Ukraine. Before joining DFRLab, he held several positions in Ukraine Crisis Media Center (UCMC), where he was involved in communications of decentralization reform and administrative support to the internal operations.

Alyssa Kann is a Research Assistant at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Washington, D.C. Alyssa previously worked in an academic counter-terrorism lab, where she specialized in data and social network analysis. While earning her BA, she wrote an honors thesis analyzing memes that targeted American presidential candidates.

Max Rizzuto is a Research Assistant at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Washington, D.C. Max’s expansive interest exploring political, social, and technological developments and their confluent influence on societies has directed his research towards online communities. While attending Stevens Institute of Technology, he wrote his undergraduate thesis on the rise, fall, and resurgence of deepfake as they first appeared.

Kanishk Karan is a Research Associate at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Washington, D.C. Kanishk’s methodology combines programming and open-source ways to conduct digital verifications. He is one of the first researchers to study the Russian Twitter troll farm that meddled in the 2016 US elections. Karan’s work has been featured by numerous media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Reuters, and others.

Esteban Ponce de León is a Research Assistant at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) based in Colombia. Esteban has been working as a data scientist and he is interested in topics such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, data journalism, and digital research. Previously, Esteban worked in data- driven journalistic productions. He has developed tools to improve research processes and to automate feature engineering and data preprocessing tasks.

Soso Sukhitashvili works as a Data Scientist and Deep Learning Engineer at MaxinAI - AI consultancy company based in Tbilisi. He has a degree in mathematics and finance from Ilia State University.

Nodar Okroshiashvili is a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer at MaxinAI - AI consultancy company based in Tbilisi. He also is an invited lecturer at the Business and Technology University, leading the introductory course in Python programing language. His previous experience includes working in the banking sector where he mainly focused on marketing data science and credit risk modeling as well as managing a cash management program to predict daily demand for cash for ATM's. He conducted cluster analysis to separate ATM's and find the most influential factors that drove demand for cash.

After a PhD in Social Sciences and several years as a cartographer at EPFL and UC Berkeley, he realized that leveraging software engineering to create interactive designs is paramount in making users smarter with data. He is now committed to find technological solutions that bring together purpose, simplicity and beauty.

Tania has a natural curiosity to understand the subject matter she is working to discover insights and stories that might not be obvious in the beginning. Once found, her background in Visual and Multimedia Communication Design allows her to transform these insights into interfaces and visualizations that inform, educate, and entertain.
